AIGA San Francisco continies its series of discussions on the business of design called "D.Talks." Throughout the year the seminars will present practical information about current trends in the design profession as well as enable a more robust dialogue within our community.

Networking: 6:30 PM
Discussion: 7:00 PM

2010 Schedule:

Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 - Crowdsourcing
Crowdsourcing is a new term for most designers. Many know it as community-based design or distributed participatory design. It takes a task traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, and outsourcing it to a group (crowd) of people or community in the form of an open call. Is it spec work, or a trend of leveraging the mass collaboration enabled by Web 2.0 technologies to achieve business goals? Our panel will lead a group discussion.

March 18, 2010: Perfecting Your Portfolio II
Back by popular demand. Whether you’re a working professional looking to reenter the job market or a recent graduate, times have never been more challenging to find a job in this over-saturated, down economy and the need to have a focused portfolio that stands out from the herd is crucial.

This moderated panel discussion will offer tips and insights to job hunting, resume building, interview tips and, yes, portfolio essentials. Crowd participation and discussion is strongly encouraged, so please come prepared to discuss. Special Sponsor: BLURB

Thursday, May 20, 2010: Plan, Pitch, Prize
There’s an art to winning business and for creative business owners, finding, pitching and landing new projects is a critical component of success.

Our next D.Talks event will be an insightful panel discussion made up of industry leaders whom we’ve asked to share insights and best-practices on the nuts and bolts of business development, including marketing plans, pitching practices, and pricing models.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010: Case Study: method
To bridge the gap between business and design, AIGA San Francisco will present a lunch-time "D.Talks" seminar that will present a business case study on how Design is employed in a single company, method, the home care and personal care products brand. Lunch is included.

Thursday, July 15, 2010: Design Entrepreneur
It has never been easier or cheaper to turn ideas into goods and services that sell. Our goal is to provide attendees with practical as well as theoretical information on how to become a design entrepreneur.

Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010: Service Design, What is it?
Service design has been defined as the activity of planning and organizing people, infrastructure, communication and material components of a service, in order to improve its quality, the interaction between service provider and customers and the customer’s experience.
